While replacing the valve cover gaskets, this brittle plastic clip snapped, leaving me with a car that now leaks significantly less oil than before, but now has no functioning cruise control (a problem, as I use that all the time).

So, I need to buy a replacement, but I have no idea exactly what it’s called (cable retaining clip? throttle clip?), or if I can just buy this without having to get a whole assembly. It came off the throttle cable, 1984 Town Car, 302 Windsor.

1937 Lincoln-Zephyr for your time.

What specifically did this part come off of? Can you take a picture of where it used to be?

Good point, not practical right now, but can certainly do that tomorrow.

Are you on grandmarq.net? I am sure someone there has the part you need. I know what part you are referring to but no idea what it’s called. You won’t find one at the dealer though.

This is not it, is it?

If you can get a pic of where it sits, I can check my parts stash. I am pretty sure I tossed out my old 302 stuff but I might have it. My 91' Vic doesn’t have cruise but I might have that piece sitting there.

I think that’s the same basic part, but it doesn’t look like it would interchange from a 351 to 302. I’ll get a picture when it’s light out tomorrow, that would probably help things a lot.

I suggest signing up on GMN. That’s where all the box owners hang out so I guarantee one of those guys can get you the part you need.

Looks like a small throttle cable bracket that holds the cable insulator so the actual cable can move the throttle.

OK, I’ll check it out. I’m sure this won’t be the last part I’ll need.

Yes! That’s basically what it did. There doesn’t seem to be a name for it, though, and no part number on it. I suppose it’s one of those things that isn’t really supposed to break.

I’d say super glue it back on, but the throttle cable is an important piece :)

Trip to the junk yard, search eBay, or make something better using a metal bracket?

I thought about gluing it, but I doubt it would be durable enough. A trip to the junkyard is probably coming.

The dealership might not be able to get their hands on one, but even if they can’t, the would still be able to give a part number to cross reference.
